From 3rd - 7th November Balsall Common Primary School hosted sixteen visitors from five partner schools from Poland, Lithuania, Spain, France and Turkey.

The main purpose of the visit was for the schools to become familiar with each other, plan the forthcoming months of collaborative work and to share the culture of the host country. Each country brough traditional biscuits and sweets to share - which we all enjoyed sampling!

The guests were shown the sites including Birmingham, Stratford, Kenilworth and Warwick and even sampled fish and chips!

Our partners were also lucky enough to experience one of our British festivals; Bonfire Night or Guy Fawkes Night.

Each school has selected a mascot for the project as a representation of their school. Our red dragon mascot has been shared with our partner schools and each was given their own (miniature version) to take back to their school. From France we received a Stork, Lithuania - Amber collected by pupils from the shores of the Baltic seas, Spain - an olive tree, Turkey - traditional Turkish clothes and from Poland - a doll with wearing traditional regional clothes.

All the teachers from the six partner schools spent a long time talking about the kind of work we will be getting involved with over the next two years. Our project is based around games, in particular a French game called the Game of Goose. We will be making our own version of this game and sharing it with our partners. Have a look at some of their designs:

We are really excited about sharing this project with our partner schools from across Europe. Watch this space over the coming months to find out more about the 'Playing With Culture Project' at Balsall Common Primary School...............!
